Worcestershire have secured the signing of Pakistan’s leg-spinner Usama Mir on temporary basis as a T20 cover for Mitchell Santner.
Santner’s availability may be delayed due to his commitments with the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The 31-year-old is scheduled to play for the Chennai Super Kings in Saturday’s final group game, where he will join former Worcestershire T20 captain Moeen Ali. If Chennai emerges victorious against the Delhi Capitals, they will progress to the knockout stages, which culminate in the final on May 28th.
Worcestershire have successfully secured the services of Usama for the opening three T20 Blast games.
The Pakistan international, who has represented his country in one-day internationals, will be available for the team’s first fixture against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road on Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old will also be playing in the home games against Yorkshire on Friday, May 26, and Leicestershire on the following Monday.
Usama has been impressive during Pakistan’s last six ODIs, and he has also performed well in the Pakistan Super League.
