Report – Dean Elgar Set to Call It Quits Following India Test Series

There’s a buzz surrounding former South Africa skipper Dean Elgar, and it’s not just about his impressive form in the current domestic first-class season.

Elgar might be ready to bid adieu to the international stage after the upcoming two-match Test series against India on home soil.

The much-anticipated Boxing Day and New Year’s Tests could potentially mark Elgar’s swan song for the Proteas, as per reports from the cricket-savvy South African newspaper ‘Rapport.’

The 36-year-old is expected to unveil his decision in a statement in the coming days, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the lead-up of this high-stakes Test series.

It’s worth noting that the left-handed opening batter has been setting the domestic scene ablaze, notching up an impressive 402 runs in just six innings for the Titans. His stellar performance in the early stages of the season has only fueled the speculation surrounding his international retirement. Let’s not forget Elgar’s crucial role in the 2021-22 home series, where his unyielding spirit and tenacity at the crease played a pivotal role in South Africa standing firm against the formidable Indian side.

The report reveal that Elgar was initially slated to lead South Africa in a challenging two-match Test series against New Zealand in February. However, fate had other plans, and discussions with Cricket South Africa (CSA) about Elgar’s return to captaincy didn’t quite materialise as expected.

Elgar is gearing up for the Indian series with an impressive track record. The seasoned campaigner boasts 5,146 runs in 84 Tests, maintaining an average of 37.28. His cricketing arsenal includes 13 centuries and 23 half-centuries, painting a picture of a resilient and experienced campaigner ready to face the challenges that lie ahead.

As the cricket narrative unfolds, all eyes are on Elgar and the Proteas, eagerly awaiting the twists and turns in this captivating story on the cricketing stage.
