Jofra Archer Returns: England’s Fast-Bowling X-Factor Set for Lord’s Test Comeback

Jofra Archer is back in whites! After a gruelling four-year wait, the electrifying pacer will finally don the England Test jersey again, stepping onto the hallowed turf of Lord’s this Thursday (July 10) for the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against India.

This is more than just a selection — it’s a stirring resurrection. Archer replaces Josh Tongue — the current leading wicket-taker in the series with 11 scalps — in what is England’s only change from Edgbaston. It’s a bold call, but one that could tip the scales in this beautifully poised series.

Archer, still only 30, has endured a hellish run of injuries since his last Test appearance — also against India in February 2021. From elbow surgery to a serious back stress fracture, the road back has been as tough as any five-day battle. But now, after easing his way through white-ball cricket and a County Championship outing for Sussex, he’s back — and ready.

Ben Stokes couldn’t hide his excitement.

“It’s been a long time coming for him,” the England skipper said. “He’s worked incredibly hard to get here. To see Jofra back in this dressing room, with a red ball in hand again, is a great day for English cricket.”

And what better venue than Lord’s? It was here that Archer delivered that spell to Steve Smith in the 2019 Ashes — short, sharp, and unforgettable.

“There’s a different feeling when he’s got the ball. The game changes. The opposition know it too,” he added. “We won’t be holding him back. If he’s in rhythm, he’ll keep bowling.”

With the series level at 1-1, and three matches left — Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval — the stage is set for Archer to reignite the spark. England’s pace battery now carries a different kind of menace.

Jofra’s return is pure theatre. The long wait is over — now it’s time to see what magic he can conjure again.
