Joe Root becomes all-time leading run-scorer for England

England Test skipper Joe Root becomes the new highest scorer across all formats after surpassing Sir Alastair Cook against India at Trent Bridge.

Root, 30, achieved the milestone on the opening day of the first Test match against India.

He now has 15739 runs under his belt, went past Sir Alastair Cook’s tally of 15,737 runs on Wednesday.

India’s legend Sachin Tendulkar (34,357 runs) tops the list of leading run-scorers in international cricket, followed by Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara (28,016), Australia’s Ricky Ponting (27,483), Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardena (25,957), and South Africa’s Jacques Kallis (25,534).

Root is currently ranked 30th.
