Caught and Signed: Lancashire Poach Gloucestershire’s Star Man

Lancashire Cricket have secured the signature of Gloucestershire all-rounder Ben Charlesworth on a three-year deal, with the left-hander set to don the Red Rose from November 2026.

The Numbers That Make Him Special

This isn’t a punt on potential. Charlesworth arrives with serious county cricket pedigree. Last season’s Rothesay County Championship campaign saw him rack up 914 runs including two centuries — one of which, rather deliciously, came against Lancashire themselves at Cheltenham. The red ball suits him: 2,869 First-Class runs from 60 appearances at an average of 30, with 33 wickets chipped in for good measure.

A White-Ball Threat Too

Don’t pigeonhole him as a red-ball specialist, though. His List A record is quietly brilliant — nearly 1,000 runs at 39 — and his T20 numbers tell their own story. A strike rate of 145 with the bat, franchise experience with MI Emirates in the ILT20, and a Vitality Blast winner’s medal from 2024 with Gloucestershire. The man knows how to perform on big occasions.

Why This Matters for Lancashire

Old Trafford faithful have been crying out for batting depth and genuine all-round quality. At 25, Charlesworth arrives in his prime — hungry, proven, and with a point to prove on new turf.

Lancashire haven’t just signed a player. They may have just signed their next talisman.
