Rajat Patidar Named RCB Captain for IPL 2025 – A New Era Begins

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have turned the page to a fresh chapter in their IPL journey by appointing Rajat Patidar as captain for the 2025 season. The 31-year-old dynamic batter, renowned for his fearless stroke play and ability to handle high-pressure situations, was officially unveiled as RCB’s leader at a special event hosted at the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) on Thursday, February 13.

A Bold Leadership Move

With Faf du Plessis not retained, RCB faced a crucial decision in their hunt for a new leader. The franchise has now placed its trust in Patidar, who previously showcased his leadership credentials by guiding Madhya Pradesh to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final. He now becomes the eighth player to captain RCB, following in the footsteps of legends like Virat Kohli and Daniel Vettori.

Patidar’s Rise – A Story of Determination

Since making his IPL debut in 2021, Patidar has grown into a key player for RCB. His ability to take on both pace and spin with ease has made him a dependable force in the middle order. Over 27 matches, he has smashed 799 runs at a staggering strike rate of 158.85.

Recognising his value, RCB secured his services for INR 11 crore ahead of the mega auction, alongside franchise stalwart Virat Kohli and promising pacer Yash Dayal.

RCB’s Captaincy Legacy – Can Patidar Deliver?

Patidar steps into a role once held by Virat Kohli, who captained RCB from 2011 to 2021, leading the team to multiple playoff appearances and a memorable runner-up finish in 2016. More recently, Faf du Plessis ensured RCB’s competitiveness with three consecutive playoff qualifications from 2022 to 2024.

Now, all eyes are on Patidar. Can he be the leader who finally brings the elusive IPL trophy to Bengaluru? The 2025 season promises to be a thrilling ride for RCB fans as a new captain takes charge.
